What is the "Heart Attack Code" and why are the first 90 minutes vital?
In the event of an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), every minute counts. The Heart Attack Code is a top-priority international medical protocol designed for extremely rapid response.
The goal of this protocol is to open the blocked artery in the heart within 90 minutes of the patient's arrival at the hospital. Achieving this drastically reduces the risk of mortality and prevents irreversible heart damage.
When you come to Clínica de Mérida under the care of Dr. Álvaro Torre, an interventional cardiologist, you will be admitted directly to a hospital with the technological capacity and infrastructure necessary to activate this code and perform an emergency cardiac catheterization at any time of day or night.
Critical Symptoms:
When to rush to the emergency room?
Don't ignore your body's signals. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience one or more of the following sudden symptoms:
-
Chest pain: A feeling of extreme heaviness, as if an elephant were sitting on your chest.
-
Radiating pain: The discomfort spreads to the left arm, jaw, neck, or back.
-
Shortness of breath: A sudden feeling of suffocation, even at rest.
-
Cold, profuse sweating: Unexplained, icy sweat accompanied by paleness.
-
Severe dizziness or fainting (syncope): Sudden loss of consciousness.
Rescue Infrastructure: 24/7 Hemodynamics Room
Treating a heart attack in progress requires more than medication; it requires interventional technology.
Unlike smaller clinics, Clinica de Merida has a fully equipped Hemodynamics Room ready to receive cardiovascular emergencies 24 hours a day. It is here that Dr. Alvaro Torre performs percutaneous interventions (through the wrist or groin) to locate the clot, aspirate it, and place a stent to immediately restore blood flow to your heart.
Instructions for the patient or family member in case of emergency
